ZM Mounting: The Zeiss ZM/VM rail design is a 45° prism with an internal recess for mounting elements.
SR Mounting: The Swarovski SR rail has small teeth on the bottom, which serve as recoil stops. The Swarovski SR rail is an ideal solution for anyone who needs the advantages it offers: when mounting a riflescope on a rifle equipped with the SR rail, there is no need to use additional tools, the assembly is done quickly, safely and easily.
When comparing the rail mount to the standard ring mount, it's easy to see all the benefits it offers. Rings can leave marks on the main tube, but not just superficial marks, the structural integrity of the scope can be compromised leaving the user with a corrupted image and tracking issues. Rifle scopes mounted with a rail are less subject to recoil shock and can withstand relentless fire of almost any caliber. If they are mounted with rings, they must be realigned after a while. Mounting with a rail provides perfect horizontal level because the reticle is aligned with the rail.
Rail mounting is always preferable to ring mounting and going forward most European high end riflescope manufacturers will exclusively use this approach. We expect the first riflescope to be produced with a mounting rail only (except Zeiss Diarange which contains a laser and cannot be mounted with rings at all).
