The .223 Wylde chamber is a hybrid chamber designed to allow .223 caliber guns to safely fire .223 Remington and 5.56 x 45mm NATO. Although the dimensions of both cartridges are the same, the 5.56 NATO loads produce pressures higher than the specifications of .223 Remington. The 5.56 chamber has angular differences that allow higher pressures, so .223 Remington can be fired from a 5.56 chamber safely, but with reduced accuracy. The Wylde design allows both calibers to be fired safely with good accuracy.
