This complete, retro-style AR-15 rifle comes with an Aero Precision Gen 2 lower, A2 fixed stock, A2 upper receiver with carry handle, carbine-length handguard, and a 10-round magazine.
The M16A2 was developed at the request of the U.S. Marine Corps following combat experience in Vietnam, and was adopted in 1982. Changes were extensive, including new, faster rifling (1 round per 7 inches, replacing the 1:12 twist rate of the M16A1) to allow use of the heavier SS109 cartridge, a heavier barrel to resist flexing and reduce overheating under sustained fire, an adjustable telescopic sight to allow aiming at ranges between 300 and 800 meters to take full advantage of the SS109's ballistic characteristics, and sight adjustments without the use of special tools or a cartridge. The stock was lengthened by 5⁄8 in (15.9 mm). The handguards were changed from the triangular, vertically slotted design to the round, horizontally slotted version found on carbines. A middle finger notch has been added to the pistol grip. The flash suppressor has been closed at the base to prevent debris from being kicked up when shooting prone. A case deflector has been added to the top of the receiver to prevent spent casings from reaching left-handed shooters. On the weapon sold by Aero Precision, the "Burst" position is purely decorative.
